On the occasion of World Photography Day, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University organized a National photography workshop titled “The Art of the Shot: A Photography Workshop”.
The workshop was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajay Taneja, who emphasized that “imagination is the essence of a great photograph.” He encouraged students to click one photograph each on this day and upload it to the university website, announcing that the best photograph would be awarded.
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Chandana Dey, highlighted photography as a powerful medium of emotional expression. Coordinator Dr. Ruchita Sujai Chowdhary noted that a photograph often leaves a deeper impact than words.
Renowned filmmaker Durgesh Pathak discussed the role of light in photography and the significance of different types of shots. Eminent photographer Vikas Babu stressed the importance of patience in photography, remarking that “techniques can be taught, but vision comes from the heart of the photographer.”
Prof. Mukul Srivastava from Lucknow University advised students to focus on elements like leading lines, natural framing, depth, and patterns. He underlined that “Keep thinking while watching, and keep watching while thinking” is the key to a great shot. Assistant Professor Dr. Neelu Sharma emphasized that emotions and storytelling make a photograph meaningful, while light remains its soul. The event also featured a documentary screening and an interactive Q&A session.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kazim Rizvi. Faculty members, research scholars, and students participated actively in the program.
